Well, the week of June 22nd we were in Fayetteville. Our realtor has been telling us that wallpaper is OUT, and that we need to strip the paper and paint the walls. The shows on tv say the same thing, so that's what we did. But the first room let us know right away that the builder had put the paper directly on the wallboard without putting any sizing on it first! So the wallboard was coming off with the paper, of course! We talked to various friends and people at Home Depot on what to do. It took 2 days for both of us to strip the shower/tub room and the water closet (small toilet room!), then we found out we could put some new stuff on the wallpaper, then paint over it. So that's what we did in the sink/counter room. It looked better than the two other rooms that we stripped! Wish we had known about it sooner. It was an exhausting week and we are still recovering from those 14 hour workdays. I can't wear rings on my right hand because it's still swollen from all that work - poor me! Wish I would have taken before & after pictures, but those rooms actually look boring to me now.
One day Charles was unloading paint from the SUV, and drop a can of white primer. Yep, dropped it & went half-way in the garage and half-way in the drive-way. There went a couple of hours of working hard to get that cleaned up. Nope, it didn't all come up. He went to Home Depot & purchased a ton of ammonia and unnatured alcohol to clean it up with (per directions on the can). The ammonia did great, but the other didn't do anything. Thank God for the ammonia!
Charles wants to do the kitchen now. Those of you who have seen our kitchen know that there is a lot of wall space in there, and that thought overwhelms me! I'm also sure that the seams will show because of all the natural light that comes in. If we do, I will definitely take pics. If anybody has any comments/suggestions/ideas - HELP!
We also spent a lot of hours trimming bushes and pulling weeds. It was in the high 90's with high humidity all week, so that was always a morning chore! Thank goodness we are getting rid of a house!
On Wednesday we found out that one of the workers (Carl) had come to Fayetteville to the VA hospital with a Kidney stone! So we went to the hospital, pulled his wife out (Denise) and went to lunch with her. They wound up going back to Branson that evening with the kidney stone still in tact, even tho the Branson VA had sent them there to have it removed! He finally passed it the next week.
We got home Thursday night, worked Friday, had friends arrive Friday afternoon. Diane & Richard had this trip to our house planned before we planned the "working" week, and as tired as we were, we enjoyed their visit. We went and saw "The Duttons" (similar to the Osmonds & they were in the top 10 finalists on "America's Got Talent") Saturday afternoon, then "Kirby & Bambi" (magic show, kids really enjoy it) that night. Charles & I were previously committed to go to the magic show because the Vacation Channel in Branson had invited all of the Branson employees in the lodging business to attend that night for drawing of prizes. Charles won 2 tickets to see the show "Transformers" at the IMAX that we have to use before July 16th. Other workers, Sherrell & Jan, each won season tickets to Silver $ City; a couple other prizes were own by our workers. That part was fun!
On Sunday, Charles & I went to Springfield to pick up Gene & Pat at the airport from their Las Vegas trip. We collapsed when we got home!
One of these days, I'm going to feel like I retired, but right now we're too busy to know it! Maybe after we get the house sold, and my braces off, and we head out west, there will be rest for the weary!
