Yuma - Castle Dome Silver Mines

We visited this "ghost town" from long ago, $10 each for our entrance.  Miners used to live there.  The silver mining began in 1864 until 1979.  There are over 35 restored buildings full of artifacts.  I was amazed that they had FIVE saloons in a tiny western town!  The old buildings had a lot of old equipment and other items in them.  Old blankets in the bunkhouse.  Old cook stoves and equipment to cook with back then.  The following picture is one of the mines.  They had Indians to dig - can you imagine digging such wide/deep holes by hand!?!?!  To take this self-guided tour, there is a LOT of walking - don't go in the late spring or summer!

This is Castle Dome (rock) from a distance.  The town is at the bottom of this mountain.

Here is the town from the road, in the distance.

When we first got there, we ate our picnic lunch that we too there (fried chicken from Chicken-On-The-Run in Yuma, chips, beans & cookies!).  We met two other couples also picnicing there & had fun talking with them while we ate our food.

These are just some pictures of what we saw there:

Ringing the dinner bell:

Time for a hair cut!

I remember these kind of cook stoves.  Oooops!  Dating myself!  LOL

Dentist, anyone????   Will trade a filling for a chicken!   :-)

What a peaceful, beautiful little building to worship.  Look at the beautiful pipe organ!

Sheriff's office & jail:

Even a bar in the stage coach depot & hotel:

I'm waiting to take your money in the bank!

Or can I make you a loan???

End of the day, hot & tired!  But enjoyed it - once!  :-)
